Shared living for a happy home

Becoming a companion allows you to have a direct impact on an older person’s life through small acts of kindness.

Becoming a Companion

If you enjoy spending time with older people and have 10-15 hours of spare time per week to help with shopping and small jobs around the home, we would love to hear from you. In exchange, you live in a comfortable home, often close to work or your University.

Our Companion Qualities

  • You enjoy helping others and lending a helping hand, ‘pitching-in’ when you can

  • Friends' describe you as ‘warm, friendly, thoughtful and kind’

  • You have a mature outlook on life and enjoy getting to know people from different walks of life

  • You value home life and are considerate and respectful with how people choose to live their lives.

Enriching lives across generations

Becoming a companion allows you to have a direct impact on an older person’s life through small acts of kindness. It can also be a good opportunity to learn new cooking skills, sharing your love of the theatre or simply running house-hold errands, walking the dog and so forth. We want to match you with the Householder who is the best fit. Kindness and connection are everything.

Affordable shared living

Many Companions with Share my Home want to build up a financial nest egg by saving on accommodation. Homesharing is a hugely cost-effective way of living in a nice home – particularly in cities and towns where rent is expensive. On average Share my Home Companions in London save £500 per month when they homeshare, compared to open market rent.

Living Locally

Our Companions really value living in a neighbourhood close to work or their university. This enables them to save their time commuting as well as saving on transport costs.

+ 6. Introductions and trial stay

When we have matched you with a suitable Home-owner that you feel may be a good fit, Share my Home goes about arranging introductions. We facilitate this introduction by ensuring we are with you every step of the way.

Ensuring the match is right for you can take some time, that is why a trial weekend stay is recommended.

+ 7. Home share agreement

If both parties are willing to go ahead with the home sharing arrangement, Share my Home will draw up the homeshare agreement. After you have agreed to the home share proposal we will arrange and set up the monthly subscription.

Companion subscription includes:

  • Ensuring the suitability of the property
  • Vetting and matching prospective Householders
  • Facilitating the meeting of prospective Householders
  • Facilitating the trial weekend
  • Preparing the agreed home-share agreement
  • Responsive home-share support 7 days per week
  • Invitation to Share my Home social groups hosted throughout the year. This is a good way of getting to know new people in London.
